The advice is not to become immersed in such things. According to Malaysia’s Information, Communication and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, that is:
Muslims Must Avoid Being Totally Immersed In Facebook And Twitter
Launching some seminar or something he emphasised that Malaysians, especially Muslim Malays, should be cautious with what they see and hear via the internet in order to “upkeep the values taught by Islam, Buddhism or Christianity”. As Facebook, Twitter, et al are merely business services introduced by the West, they shouldn’t be fully embraced – bet he’s only got a strop on because he doesn’t have a Facebook fan page.
He went on to commend the country’s Communications and Multimedia Commission for tracking down 25 year old student Mohamad Tasyrif Tajudin, who allegedly (mustn’t forget that word) wrote, “you want me to throw a petrol bomb there? We can negotiate the price” during a recent Facebook debate over whether or not non-Muslims are entitled to use the word Allah for God. The individual, who, we can assume, isn’t particularly bright, was allegedly offering to target churches with his Molotov cocktail throwing skills.
There’s a moral in there somewhere. . . .
