Good title, that. Short and straight to the point. Prosecutors from the Hrodna voblast in Belarus are petitioning a Navahradak city court to fine a man some £1,700 ($2,700 or €1,900) after he pleaded guilty to defacing a bust of Vladimir Lenin. Yury Kazak from the unregistered – obviously – Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BHD) poured green paint over Lenin’s head to express his disgust at the way said bolshie is commemorated in Belarus.

Mr Kazak, who timed the redecoration to coincide with the anniversary of the October Revolution on November 7th, was subsequently charged under Article 339 (Part 1) of the Belarusian Criminal Code – or put more simply, with hooliganism – which potentially could have landed him with a three year stint in gaol. The BHD have since started collecting signatures to have the sculpture officially removed.
Final sentencing will take place on January the 11th. And yes, that does say “Mark smells like poo” – no idea why, so please don’t ask . . . .
