Famed for his paintings on religion and depiction of national heroes, artist Ilya Glazunov is now seeing daggers after Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told him that the sword shown in one of his canvases is too small. Choosing not to mince his words, Vlad compared the weapon to a penknife suited only for slicing sausages, when he saw it at an event celebrating the painter’s 79th birthday.

He makes a fair point. Well he does. Although ‘Prince Oleg with Igor’ was painted in 1973, the artist, who, coincidentally, founded the Russian school of high realism, has now promised to redo it with a more appropriately sized sword. His new guru is no stranger to art. Back in January a painting by Putin entitled ‘Uzor’ (Pattern) sold for over a million dollars at a charity auction.

But what does Glazunov think of it?
