Say what? I’m all for free speech and that, but an article in today’s Pakistan Daily is beyond belief. Filed under ‘Recent Headlines’ is a short run down aimed at explaining the Holocaust to the public in as concise a manner as possible.

Surely ‘Holocaust Denial For Dummies’ would be more appropriate? It’s not surprising so many people in the Islamic world believe that the whole thing was a lie when they read crap like that.
The British press do at least try to portray an accurate version of events, even if they frequently get the details wrong. You’d think that journalists here would at least check before making statements such as:
‘Among those who died at Auschwitz was the teenage diarist Anne Frank’
This, incidentally, quoted from a recent Daily Mail article, which, rather ironically, was condemning research that showed how a ‘number of pupils aged between 11 and 16 have a poor understanding of the Holocaust’. Yes, and evidently the Daily Mail journalist who wrote the piece should be in the classroom with them, as Anne Frank actually died of typhus at Bergen-Belsen, not Auschwitz.
Really, you just couldn’t make it up – despite what some people claim. . . .
Edit (03/02/10): The article appears to have been expunged from the Pakistan Daily website, but can be viewed here:
