That’s Georgia, former Soviet republic, not Georgia, USA – just wanted to clear that up. Whenever we think of Georgia (former USSR) it’s always the same famous names we conjure up: Stalin, Beria, Stephane and 3G . . . What do you mean you’ve never heard of Stalin?
According to the Ria Novosti news agency, the legendry Georgian pop group Stephane and 3G have had their Eurovision entry banned because it contained unacceptable lyrics about Vladimir Putin.
The “band” were due to represent Georgia in the forthcoming Eurovision song contest to be held in Moscow on May the 18th. Their anti-Russian-government song, ‘We Don’t Wanna Put In’ – you’ve no doubt spotted the clever play on words there – doesn’t conform with Eurovision rules, which prohibit lyrics containing a political statement.
Eurovision organisers have issued an ultimatum to the group: alter the lyrics or the song will be removed entirely. A poll of the Georgian public found that 84.9% opposed changing the words.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Lyrics aside, they need ‘Put In’ out of their misery . . .
